Free internet filters ??

I know I've seen talk of this sort of thing before, I just wasn't paying attention at the time.

But, I'm here now, or there now, or whatever.

Would someone please direct me?

I just need something to keep my 8 and 10 yr olds safe.

I second K9. It's been great for us, and it's free! DH had no trouble installing it on our wireless network at home.

On your network eh? So, does that mean I can simply download/install on one computer and then it will transfer to each computer? Or do I download/install separately on each computer? (did that even make sense? I'm not exactly techno savvy :p )

I know I've heard K9 mentioned a lot, I'll be looking further into that. Haven't heard of glubble, I'll glance at it as well.

Oh, question...

This is what brought this whole filter idea to surface here...
Hub had set up the other computer for the kids, just whatever parental controls are on it, not a real detailed filter ?? Anyway, allowing X sites, one of which was Google.
Well, while *I* was using Google to search a recipe I ended up, as a second result on the page (!) a site called "perverts cookbook" ?? And in the descript it used the f word. :o Will K9, or these other filters, block that sort of thing?

As I said, not techno savvy here, I'm not really sure how these filters work and what all they work on. Which is why I'm here asking for names/recs then I can further research :)

Well, you know, I have no clue. All I know it that DH was very happy that he could install it so easily. He had trouble with other software for internet filters. I'm probably less techno savvy than you are. I just type and click. DH and DS #1 handle all other aspects. I still have trouble downloading items to my MP3 player, so DS#1 does that for me when he downloads stuff for his player. It doesn't bother me though because really, the more I know the more I have to do.

As far as the language goes, yes, I think it will filter all foul language. It filters many of the picture sites too. I can't get to photo bucket because of the filter, but you can override it with a password if you choose to set it up that way. We've been using it for over a year now. Nothing inappropriate has come through, and we're very conservative in this area.

and have never had a problem with it. It's also great that you can add specific sites to block, so that when my teens get behind in schoolwork, I can block Facebook or whatever is tempting them until they get it done.

You can even block web advertisements (like the Vict oria's Sec ret ones on weather.com)

Ooo ok now I'm sold! It even blocks VS ads!?! Those are so stinkin' obnoxious!!
