I took the plunge and joined Netflix and ordered the Guns, Germs, and Steel documentary. I thought it gave a really good overview of one way to think about spread of technology through the ancient world that still affects us today. The documentary was well done and interesting, with actors in several scenes portraying the historical event.

Any other suggestions on good DVD's for the ancients are welcome!

Funny - I was at a History Day workshop today - and they mentioned it as the example of how to show the relevance of history to today!!

I've got a hold request in to our library for this book. The topic is something I have pondered for a long time, and I was psyched to run across this book!

Thanks for the YouTube link, I've been meaning to read the book for a while and its nice to see a documentary based thereon. I still think I need to read the book though. Anyway, I've watched the first episode (clips 1 to 6) so I've got two more to go. Thats something to look forward to. ;-)
