One more question on what I should do for history

We have done SOTW 1, 2, 3, (books , AGs and CDs). We have also completed CHOW with activities. For both, we did A LOT of additional non-fiction and historical fiction reading. We have also read Little History of the World and listened to the CD.

Question: Do we do SOTW4 next, OR go through the whole thing again with another program, OR spend a year on U.S. History?

I already own SOTW 4 (book and CDs) but am willing to purchase another option if it makes sense.

If SOTW 4 is the best choice, is the AG worth buying?

DD is almost 11 and will be in 5th grade.

I'd stick with SOTW 4, and just add in any extra reading you want, like you were before. You will still get American History, it just won't be as in depth. There's plenty of historical fiction you can use to flesh out the parts that don't get much attention.
I don't know about the AG, but I've loved every other one, so I'd probably give it a shot. Maybe buy it used to save a bit.

If you continue on with SOTW (and I would recommend it), the AG is very beneficial. We have used all four volumes with ds (4th grade), and Vol. 4 begins to transition into logic-stage work. There are no coloring pages, but instead there are timeline figures, more detailed maps, and more advanced projects. Rather than narrating as in the first three volumes, the student begins to outline and write from an outline. Vol. 4 is recommended for grades 4-8, so your dd is right in there!

I have been much happier with SOTW IV this year than I thought I'd be. The activity guide is not coloring pages, but outlining prompts and things for older children, so I think you might find it useful.
