We did a little nature walk of our front yard today. We have 4 different trees in our front yard and my dc were noticing their difffernces. My ds asked why the ends of the branches of one of the trees were red. Know where I might get these answers?

Trees can be tricky, IMO. Besides a good field guide that shows not only leaf shapes, but bark, flowers/fruits, and nuts, you might try your county's extension office (http://www.csrees.usda.gov/Extension/). They are usually quite willing to help identify the main trees and shrubbery in the area.

Hope that's helpful to you. :)

My 4-Hers who compete in forestry judging regularly consult this site.

I would second calling or visiting your friendly Extension service. They may have a tree guide on hand that would give to you. Ours does!

eNature.com (http://www.enature.com/home/) rocks! It has online field guides for almost everything. It has a zipcode guide to narrow down species in your area.

Be sure to check out their bird audio (http://www.enature.com/birding/audio.asp).
