I really am liking the SL curriculum. We have la 2int, 1 and 4 with SL.
I bought the LLATL yellow and tan last year...but I ended up selling both. The idea is very good. I think the yellow was very simple. Too simple. I never used the yellow one. I think it was 3rd? but it was easier then her abeka 2 that she had been using. With the Tan, I couldnt get the schedule down for the books and we didnt read the same as we are reading with the sl books. The copy work was very long, in my opinion, and SL is a lot less. The SL teacher book tells me what to do each day and how to approach the writing. The llatl didnt have that if I remeber correctly. It was more of an answer key. I didnt think the assignments had been explained clearly in some of the pages...but they never have questions with the SL work.
With Sl, on monday we do copywork. Our reading is written down so I know what pages to assign. Then if you want more copywork..there is optional copywork in the te. Then each day you have an assignment to do. You can work ahead if you want...but it is broken down nicely. My 1st grader can do the work and be done in 4 days rather then 5.
In the 2 int. they introduce diamond notes. It is very simple... I see a huge difference in her writing. She is now writing very nice stories. The core 4 la addes in creative writing that goes along with the stories. My kids finally enjoy LA. There isnt much grammar...but you can always add more in if you need too. I think it is enough for my girls. You can go online and see samples of both. I think it gives a good start to your comparison.
