As we're refinishing the hardwoods in our old home, I find myself wondering what type of finish other folks have gone with. We opted for semi-gloss. My decorator friend would have gone with gloss. What about you?:001_smile:

Semi-gloss, because *sometimes* a high gloss can look like a bowling alley or something, KWIM? Maybe it depends on the specific product used?

I voted "semi" but I'd take nearly any finish that wasn't plaid carpet! ::cue horror movie climax music::

We used Poly (I think 2 coats) I don't think it looks like a bowling alley but then again I lived with horrible looking hardwood floors for so long I think any redone floor would look nice!

We have high gloss floors and I hate them. Oh, they look beautiful for literally the first minute after they are mopped. But as soon as one person walks on them, you can see little footprints. They always look smudgy and every scratch (which with kids, is many) is very noticeable. Plus, with our natural style preferences and the practical, lived in look of our house, I think satin or maybe semi-gloss would be better.

My husband refinishes wood floors for a living and he does a lot of satin. That's what I voted for.

Interesting. I just spoke with an area contractor this evening (a church friend) who said that they most commonly do semi-gloss or gloss in these here parts. :001_smile:

Thanks for sharing and for your input!
