Besides hiccups, what could cause a "hiccup" sensation, but not have the pause between each hiccup (thump)? Thumpthumpthump as opposed to thump........thump........thump.......

Dr. wants to do another u/s because she says hiccups would have a pause. I'm a little nervous about it, but thinking there has to be an explanation that doesn't require another u/s. So I'm racking my brain to try and figure out possibilities. :banghead: It's not daily, and it's almost always when I'm laying on my side. What do you think it could be?

Other than lots of little kicks and punches:boxing_smiley:, I have no idea.

Good luck though,
Hope you get a nice simple answer.

I only say that because my youngest would do this odd little scrunching up and down thing from the day she was born. Sometimes it was related to music/noise, sometimes not, but I always called it "dancing".

Edited to add: get the u/s. I always loved getting ultrasounds of the baby, even when I knew there was nothing wrong.

I would just go ahead with the u/s to make sure there's nothing wrong. Better safe than sorry.

I would sometimes feel a shiver. Like the baby had the chilly willies. Weird. I can't imagine what else would be thumping in there except a heart but I am sure they have checked that already. Maybe there are a FEW thumpers in there.

Take the ultrasound for peace of mind!:iagree:

I had an acquaintance who had something like you're describing. It's been a while ago, but I can't remember what was happening exactly. They did an ultrasound and there was something wrong, but because they found out right away they were able to fix what was going on and their child is completely normal now. I'm sorry my mind is so fuzzy on the details, it was about 4 years ago, and I don't know her that well. I do know that because they found out early, things turned out great.

Perhaps the amnio fluid is being displace rhythmically b/c baby is sucking his/her thumb? Just a thought... Mine seems to hiccup a lot but NOT where the head is, KWIM? Baby is def. head down, but I feel hiccups up where his feet are! Weird. I can only think the fluid has something to do with it. Good luck, I'm sure it's nothing serious or to be concerned about.

what about farting? I know both of mine had this problem and it would feel like I was being both tickled and thumped from the inside... pain in the rear it was ;)

I still don't know what it could have been, though and both kids are fine. I would have thought it was a seizure, except that it didn't last long enough. One of my boys continued to do the weird shaky thing until he was several months old. It was only when he would drop off to sleep. No explanation though. :grouphug:

It always happened to me when I was laying n my side, too. I began to wonder whether it was some sort of back wall uterine muscle spasm, except that ds still did it after he was born.

I'd still go for the ultrasound though... I just always find them reassuring.

My baby did this thing with a seizue-like movement. It freaked me out, but I asked the OB and she said it was just like sudden movements during sleep. He is completely fine. I noticed after she told me that his dad does this sort of movement while sleeping as well.

About hiccups then they tend to give movement in the back/tummy-area. Something I also learned this time around and noticed after ds was born.

I had several ultrasounds this time and am a total sucker to know things are going well...

It makes me feel so much better if you experienced this also! I hope we're talking about the same thing! http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/sign/sign0161.gif (http://www.ganja.co.uk/)

About the seizure-like feelings that have been mentioned, I asked my OB about this 2 weeks ago. I never experienced that sensation with my other two either. She said it's completely normal, and it's actually the baby taking a limb and stretching it up against the uterine wall. When the muscles stretch, they shake because they are so immature still. So in essence, the baby is practicing stretching and this makes for good muscle development which is already noticeable at birth. That made much sense to me.

She couldn't help me with the fast paced, no pause between, thumping, and I'm still having contractions so she thought an u/s would be best "just to be sure" everything is OK. That makes me nervous. http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/scared/scared0001.gif (http://www.ganja.co.uk/)

I'd love to just have the opportunity to "visit" with the baby.

When I was pg with my last, I contracted Fifth's Disease, and had to have weekly untrasounds for two months (to check for anemia and swelling in the baby -- who turned out to be fine). I LOVED those ultrasounds! I loved seeing the changes, the growth, and new position. Plus, my doc was into 3D imaging, so he liked to try to get those "baby book" shots. It was fun to try to see the baby in 3D. (of course, the baby always moved, so the 3D images were always distorted and wierd).

I'd say, don't worry about it. Just go, and say "Hi" to the baby from all of us! :)

She'll be three in July!

Ack.

What's even harder to witness, is that A will be 12 the same month!

Very strange.
