So Galore Park, the UK publisher, has two Latin series:

Latin Practice (listed as 11-13 year age range)
So You Really Want to Learn Latin (listed as 11-16 age range)

Anyone have experience with these curricula? Thoughts? I'm just pondering ahead a bit, thinking about my future 9th-grader.

The two main series are Latin Prep (middle school) and SY Latin (middle to high school). However Latin Prep can be used well for high school, just by speeding up the pace.

I have used LP books 1-3 and have SY Latin 3. LP is more engaging and accessible, even for an older student. The publisher recommends doing LP 1-3, then SY 3. The latter offers review and extension. After these, you will be well prepared for reading ancient texts. This is a review I wrote previously of Latin Prep:

The explanations are very clear, the progression is logical, and there is a lot of great translation practice (Latin to English and English to Latin). The vocabulary is limited - the focus is on the grammar.

The course is secular, and is laced with quirky translation passages (mostly based on mythology/history) and amusing cartoons. The author has twenty years of experience teaching Latin to this age group; the tone is droll and age appropriate.

The basic course is the text book and answer book - one of each per year. There are also optional workbooks if you feel the need of extra practice. You can see samples here:

The books are available in the US from www.horriblebooks.com (Ray may have some on hand - otherwise he orders periodically in batches) or direct from the UK with free shipping from www.bookdepository.co.uk. I've used BD several times; service has always been excellent and very swift.

I have no financial connection with Galore Park - I'm just an enthusiast for many of their products.

Best wishes

THanks, Laura!

I'm just an enthusiast for many of their products.

So I guess you like the Latin series ... that is good to know. I really liked the look of the samples they offer. Thanks for the info on the recommended sequence, too. :)

Thanks again,
Karen
