For your gifted math kids. What programs do you think you'll use, and when will you use them?

I'm getting Life Of Fred, and looking into other great math programs for a young gifted kid.

Well, we didn't use Singapore, but I'll chime in anyway.

Dd is using Life of Fred, and then I anticipate folding in some of the Art of Problem Solving courses. I also thought I'd have her read at least some of Euclid's actual work when we go through geometry.

Well my oldest just finished Singapore pm. I've agonized a lot about our plan, and I have this year planned out, but the future years are still in the works. This year we are doing a combo of Life of Fred Beginning Algebra and Dolciani Modern Algebra (1975).

I really have no idea what we're doing next year . DS wants to do geometry next, but I think it might be better to do another year of algebra. Or maybe we'll do something totally different like statistics and probability. Luckily I have a whole year to decide :001_smile:.

I'd love to use the Art of Problem Solving courses, but they are too pricey for us right now. I'm keeping them in mind for the future.

My eldest just moved into Algebra after that stage, but with my middle dd we moved from SM 6 to Russian Math. Once she's done that, we'll do Begining Algebra, However, first we're going to work fractions again. She's gifted, but fractions need review (Her main area of giftedness is not in math, although she is good enough at it that even though she doesn't work that hard at it she's going to start Algebra before she's 12.) After that it will be Dolciani Algebra 1 either 1965 or 1975 and/or Gelfand's Algebra. At some point I want all my dc to work through Gelfand's Algebra. My eldest as done a fair bit of it, but she doesn't like school, so we're going to pick it up again when she does Algebra 2 (she did finish Algebra 1, just not Gelfand's Algebra.)

Just as I thought! There are probably some really good gems out there, and I want y'all to keep mentioning them, because it takes me forever to decide. (I'm getting a little better, though.)
