What do you use for high school Canadian history? Do you study Canadian government separately, or do you incorporate that into history? Have you found any way to make history more interesting (ie, for me, what do you include besides political history?)

I'm seriously considering making a course in Canadian studies mandatory in high school even though it's not a requirement in the States. They've all done something in elementary school, except ds, who is going to do something this year.

with the book "The Story of Canada" the video series "Canada, A People's History" (from the library) and historical novels. Then we just blend Canadian history into the 4 year world history sequence in high school. The video series would be fine for high school but the book would seem "young" for a highschooler.

Thanks, Ruth. I may end up doing that with my younger two, who'll need something for grade 8ish and, unlike my eldest, will be done US history by then (until high school). This is one of the reasons I don't even try to do 3 cycles of world history. If need be, I could incorporate it into dd's high school if I don't find anything else.

Here's a link to a potential resource: http://www.heritageresources.ca/cat_det.asp?id=4452&categoryid=
Unfortunately I've never laid eyes on this program, so I can't offer any feedback. Perhaps someone else will chime in.

This isn't a help if you're wanting to put together a Canadian History program now, but Donna Ward of Northwoods Press (https://www.donnaward.net/index.php) indicated to me at a homeschool conference back in June that she is working on a Canadian History course for High Schoolers. She hoped the program would be ready next year.
