I've been reading and posting to the Well Trained Mind message boards for 8 years now (!) and liked the old way so much better! I am one of those people that don't do well with change...
So... how do I go about replying to a previous post without creating a new thread? Speak slowly and use small words and I might get it!
Thanks!
mary

two ways:
1) See that post reply button below my post? You can hit it and a post a message there. It looks like you are creating a new thread, but you aren't. Then hit the submit reply, button.

2) Quick reply: Which is the reply box on the bottom of the page. Hit it and you can post a new reply in there too.

If you look at where my post is in the thread, it should be under your original post, but not indented as HootyTooty's is. That is because I used the post reply button at the top of the page, above your original post. If you want your reply to appear under a specific person's reply, click on their post under the threads and then click the post reply button at the top.

At least I think that is right;)

You know, I hated this new format at first, but I really like it now. It has kinda grown on me.

So now, I should be indented under her post.

True, but that is only visible to those viewing the thread using Hybrid or Threaded mode. If you view the thread in Linear mode, it simply puts all the replies in chronological order.

I really like the hybrid or threaded mode best as it helps me keep it sorted out visually.

Okay I am giving it a try. Now how do I change to hybrid or threaded modes?

At the top right of this thread, click on Display Modes.

I'm used to using the Linear style on this type of board, but it can get confusing trying to figure out which post an "I agree" reply goes to.

That I why I always quote the person to which I am replying.

I don't mean to hijack here. . .

I couldn't stand the format of the old threads. One could get lost there, and heaven forbid I ever wanted to search for anything in particular! I think I posted like 3 times on the old threads before I just gave up.

So, all that to say, I'm SO HAPPY they changed to this!
