My youngest daughter is 8, in 2nd grade. We're in our 2nd year of homeschooling. We do just the basics, and it takes ALL DAY. One Saxon lesson took 90 minutes last night. She's finally reading, didn't survive well at all in a classroom, one on one we do much better.
I don't know where to go from here as I hate to have her labeled. But yet, I feel like I can't keep doing this. We adopted her as an infant, but know very little of her genetic family history.
Does anyone have recommendations for testing, where to go from here?

Start with your pediatrician and BE SURE to mention specifics. Our ds 6 has FAS. We were fortunate enough for bio mom to admit all she did while pregnant. (If that could ever be a positive?) But we knew what to look for. We had to wait 9 months to see a geneticist and neurodevelopmental pediatrician; but it was SO helpful.
Once we had a diagnosis we finally had 1) a better understanding 2) information we can now use for his benefit. We are fortunate to have a ped. who is supportive of homeschooling.

The pp is right - start with a pediatrician. They can refer you for developmental testing and all that. I understand not having a history from adoption. I don't know histories for either of mine. Sometimes I think it would help, but then again, I don't know that it would change anything either.
In the meantime, try to determine what is difficult about the curriculums you are using. You may need to change to somethign else that better fits her learning style. Have you considered MUS or Rod and Staff or another publisher? She may need to move slower or just have it presented in a different way.
