View Full Version : Field Trip Ideas?
We are new to the Kalamazoo, Michigan area and I was hoping to get some ideas on interesting field trips to plan. I was thinking of generic field trips that can be done regardless of where you live. For example, in the fall we went to the Water Treatment Plant. We've done the fire station and library tours in the past as well. Any other ideas? Thanks!

Not generic but,
Air Zoo
Nature Center
Greenfield Village (Detroit)
Museums/Aquariums (Chicago)
Simplicity plant in I believe Niles
Delano Homestead
Kellogg Bird Sanctuary
Meridian Village (about an hour away)
Reindeer farm
Warren Dunes
I know the radio stations will give you a tour, movie theatres may work with you, Butterfly Gardens in GR (organized trip this Friday if you are interested PM me), when I was a kid the banks would do tours...go to bigger branches because they will have more opportunities to show you things, the newspaper may do tours
You would think I take my kids on tours all the time....LOL....but I don't...just have some ideas that I am not able to get to most of the time.
I will think and see what else I can come up with.

Does Kellog's still do a tour of the cereal factory? That was very popular as I grew up. Dow in Midland also did a tour and we saw how saran wrap was made. Also, there's Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids to see "Leonardo's Horse." Yes, little old Grand Rapids has the US version of the horse that features prominantly in many Renaissance curricula. Also in GR is President Ford's Museum. Go to Lansing and see the capitol and the state museum.
There are also lots of museums at the various Universities and lots of nature parks/gardens/etc. of all sorts around the state.
Hope that gets you started!
