In preparing for high school I kick myself for not doing some Latin in middle school. I really want ds to have 4 years of Spanish in high school. Is it possible to get something useful out of Latin in the last middle school year?

And yes, it would be of value. My daughter did I, and 1/2 of II before doing German in public high school and thought that just the fact that she understood the grammar from that study helped immensely. My son, who went on to finish LC II, still remembers many of the vocab. words which helps with English. LC is a very gentle way to learn about studying the grammar of a foreign language and a great English vocab builder. Studying Spanish would benefit even more from a year of Latin, since it is closer to it than to German! Of course, you could just start Spanish with a light program or a regular one, slowly. My son will take Spanish I in 9th next year (in ps) and has been very slowly working in The Learnables Spanish for 2 years now, just as an intro.
