I was looking for something on my district's website and saw a link to register for a free practice PSAT then I saw that they were nationwide. If you are interested you can go to the PrincetonReview (http://www.princetonreview.com/events.aspx)events site to see if there is one in your area. The website says you even get a free detailed score report. The district website warned that they fill up fast.
One of the biggest criticisms against the SAT is that it is too coachable, but the Fall PSAT for juniors is a big deal. I wish my ds had taken it more seriously. I'm pretty certain that the point of the free sessions is to sell parents on the expensive sessions, but if they can get out of the free event experience taking the proctored sample test and a have detailed score report, then it would be beneficial.
