My second grader is currently reading the CLP Nature Reader 3. We love this series so much -- not only does he get daily reading practice, but we both love learning about the animals. My son is quite a lover of animals.

It has also been fabulous because he has been reading about invertebrates (in the 2nd reader and again now in the 3rd) and that is what we are studying this year for science.

So anyway, I was looking at the Yesterday's Classics website tonight, and was thinking about having my son use Among the Forest People as his next reader this year and not start the Nature Reader #4 until next year.

Has anyone used these for reading practice -- as readers? I was just thinking how much I would like to incorporate some of their nature books into our studies, but our science is quite full right now.

As far as incorporating, daily reading practice is great. Mother West Wind's Children by Thornton Burgess is my dd7's independent read aloud right now because we're still studying Astronomy (at her request) and we have reading two days a week already in that.

Eventually, we'll have a book basket of books for her to read for the year independently and we'll have shared science reading time for whatever topic we're studying.

Most of what you see at Yesterdaysclassics.com can be be seen at mainlesson.com - at least a few chapters. You can check other online sources for the free text like the Internet Archive, http://www.archive.org/details/amongpondpeople00pierrich and Google books and Gutenberg.org.

Hope this helps
