Starting to think ahead a year or so. What do you do after SOTW for grammar stage? Why?

Do you mean for the logic stage? SOTW 1-4 covers history for the grammar stage.

We went to History Odyssey. It uses Kingfisher History for a spine (WTM calls for this), it (HO) requires ds to think a bit more going into the logic state, do more work, writing, outlining, mapping, timelines. AND he does most of this all on his on with just a little help from me with the outlining.

We continue with SOTW but have more supplemental reading, longer narrations, extra mapwork and in general boost up the work level.

Oh, sorry. I read your question wrong.
For the logic stage, we are trying a variety of things: Mystery of History for ancients, back to SOTW2 with extra reading for the middle ages. Next year I'm looking at Beautiful Feet study guides.

I'm going to start with TOG year 1 next year after completing SOTW 1-4.
My oldest will be in grade 8 when we start the next round of history after completing SOTW and I am leaning towards TOG right now. However, that's still 3 years away so take it FWIW. :)

History Odyssey, because it's the only secular, chronological history I know of. Mixed review though :glare:

I will have the boys read the books then do written narrations, read more heavy duty literature, etc. They will do a more in-depth map work. I cannot change quite yet because I do want to follow the Well Trained Mind's idea of 4 year history cycle and I have a son that loves this series with a passion. I cannot give it up.
Blessings,
Karen

We will be using Van Loon and Gombrich as spines, adding in Suzanne Strauss Art books for more depth, as well as History of US and Rebecca Fraser's History of Britain for later years. I haven't spreadsheeted it yet, but I think those will be the resources.

TOG Ancients for the second rotation and loving it! One thing I like is that it schedules SOTW so we can go back and review what we learned before. I have really enjoyed all the choices it offers and I love the world view.
