The bread is beautiful! It's delicious, too. :)
I walked around the block to the house that is behind ours. The lady there has chickens. I knocked on the door and asked her if I could talk with her about her chickens. We talked chickens for a bit. Then we went out to the coop and found three brown eggs (which she insisted I take home), and offered to give me baby chicks if her hens lay some (she has a rooster). She also said I can use her baby chick feeder and waterer. I have a guinea pig cage that the baby chicks can live in until they're bigger. I have the space for a coop and room for them to safely roam. The local pet store (1/4 mile away) has the chick and chicken food.
I came home and looked up Ideal's website (they let you order chicks one at a time with a $20 minimum order). Here's what I ordered:
Black Australorp
Barred Rock
Buff Orpington
Columbian Wyandotte
I ordered two of each...pullets and just one male Buff Orpington.
I also ordered a book called Eggs & Chickens. My total was about $30, including shipping.
Chickens in a couple of weeks...who would have thought.
