View Full Version : Question for those who moved from R&S English to Easy Grammar/Daily Grams

I wanted to introduce my second grader to grammar this year, so we used Rod & Staff English 2. He reads far above grade level and has perfect oral grammar skills. His handwriting is a little shaky, and we haven't done very much spelling yet. His vocabulary is off the charts.

But, I wanted to prime him for some grammar, which I feel Rod & Staff has done nicely. I already have Daily Grams 4/5, 5/6 and 6. I also used Easy Grammar along with these for my oldest son, and I loved the approach. I want to stick with the same series since I already have the materials and because I liked it so much. I already have extra resources for extra practice on capitalization and punctuation which I feel Easy Grammar rushes through somewhat.

My question -- finally -- is what level should I start my third grader who has finished R&S English 2? I have the older books and don't plan to buy the entire new series. Should I look for a 2nd/3rd or a 3rd/4th?

Or should I just get rid of my older editions and start over with the new single grade editions? (not my preference due to cost).

I have not used R&S (although I have perused the text). I am fairly familiar with Daily Grams and EG...Since the lowest level of DG you mentioned is 4/5, your son has had some intro to grammar, and there are now leveled sets for each grade available, why not start with the new DG/EG for 3rd grade? Then you have the option of sticking with the new program for 4th grade or using the 4/5 materials you already have.

Seems like the easiest path to switch over...

What do you think?

Nancy, why didn't I think of that? I guess I was afraid if I mixed them, my son would miss something.

I think I'll go with your suggestion. Thanks!
