The intro says 9 / 4th grade. I was wondering if anyone has used this with a younger child?

Never.

I thought Simply Grammar was simply awful. Archaic language, bad examples, strange illustrations.

I would like to know as well.

I have it and was thinking of using it to supplement LLATL. I was going to try it when she starts 3rd, she will be newly 8.

I have always used FLL but thought Simply Grammar would be a nice change.

Some old-fashioned teaching models are timeless. In this revised and expanded edition of First Grammar Lessons by Charlotte Mason, you'll discover one of them---the simple method of narration that focuses on conversation as a natural means of teaching grammar to your fourth to eighth graders. (From ChristianBook.com)

I checked it out from the library and I prefer HillsideEducation.com 's updated products more but I wouldn't go so far as to critique it as harshly as Ellie did.

I've used it with 2 children a few years back...I wouldn't use it before age 9 or 10. ;)
