I am looking for a program that my dc can do independently. By independent, I mean that they read and answer questions by themselves, and then I discuss it with them. They have loved the, "on the couch together reading" method for many years, but now that they are older(13/14), they need more independence. Notgrass looks great. I have read the samples and am ready to order the World History program. Before I do, I want to know of any negative opinions---so far, I have only heard great things. I do plan on using something else for English, so am only concerned about the history part. Thanks!

My son used it for World History, but we supplemented with other literature (not always what he suggested) and lots of documentaries, Teaching Co, etc.

I found it overall to be on the shallow side, and we really didn't need the Bible study which comprised one fifth of the text. Not that we have anything against Bible study, it was just that we really wanted just history. Bible is taught at other times and through other methods here.

I did not find there to be enough working with the literature to qualify as an English credit either.

My son wasn't particularly thrilled with it. He loves history, but this just wasn't interesting enough for him.

I also thought the multiple choice tests were rather lame. I know the essay questions allowed for more thinking, but since my son chose the nation project, the other questions were not done.

Also, he chose to do the Nation Project and studied Great Britain. He was researching so much that I decided to just make a History of Great Britain course for him using an Oxford history book and the independent research he did.
