View Full Version : Is there a good, cheap way to learn foreign languages?
Like maybe a book or series that I could find at Borders or B&N? I'm looking for self education purposes, so there's no need to try to meet credit requirements or anything.

My current favorite is Michel Thomas (just force yourself through the introduction part). I don't think its to expensive (or maybe the library?). Its a great way to learn to USE the language, fast.
Free FSI Language courses (http://fsi-language-courses.org/Content.php)
All Japanese All The Time (http://www.alljapaneseallthetime.com/): creating an immersion environment using what you have (there is a lot of content to read). Free (its a blog)
How To Learn Any Language (http://how-to-learn-any-language.com/) is a good site with an active forum
What language are you thinking off?

There's also a free Latin curriculum called Latinum which uses a textbook available on google books and has an audio podcast for every lesson. My daughter hasn't used it yet but we're considering it. Good luck :]

These are pretty good deals from Homeschool Buyers Co-op (http://www.homeschoolbuyersco-op.org/?source=51921) (the Rosetta Stone one is the best retail price you can get). They've got other good deals that you get just because of the high volume they can purchase.

BBC has free online courses for many languages. I haven't looked at them very closely-

I've looked at the mocha site and the podcasts, but are there any that a younger child would actually do?
