My dh is organizing a huge city-wide 3 day health event at the beginning of May. He'd like to tap into the homeschool community for one of the weekdays but needs some ideas as to what would draw out this particular demographic. They already have several local team mascots and athletes on hand, various hands-on games and competitions, and a national anti-abduction initiative. But is there something in particular that homeschoolers would be especially interested in?

I suggested a fire safety seminar (this is required in PA homeschool laws). Anything else? Any and all ideas are welcome. It just has to loosely be related to a healthy lifestyle.

Thanks in advance.

We had a health "expo" here that had a kid's area. They had a circuit training kind of set up for kids that my kids really enjoyed. They were issued a "passport" kind of book that was stamped for each activity completed. Some of the things they did: 1. how many sit ups (crunches) in a set amount of time (1 min.?) 2. how many push-ups (the kind where you are on your knees) in a set amount of time (1 min. again, I think) 3. how fast could you go through a "ladder" set on the floor (they had one made out of fabric tape that they told me was used for football training). 4. how fast could you go between cones set in a line. 5. how many jumps with a jump-rope you could do in a set amount of time. 6. how many times you could pull a resistance band up to your shoulders (you stand on the band at the bottom). 7. how many times could you step up and down a step in a set amount of time.

This was not geared specifically to homeschoolers but I really appreciated it because the people who were running the area took the time to talk to me - they pointed out that all of these activities were inexpensive (most used no materials and the materials they used were not specialized ones for the most part).

I've been asked to formulate an email today to my dh's partner on ideas for their health-expo. (that sounds so "official"). Anyone else have ideas to suggest before I start typing? Thanks so much in advance.
