Does an 8th grader need formal logic if he is taking year 2 latin?

While Latin will certainly help students become aware of language and more attentive to detail, it's not a substitute for logic as an academic subject. Have you looked at Memoria Press's courses (http://www.memoriapress.com/descriptions/index_logic.htm)? They're not fancy, but they are thorough. HTH!
