Hi! As I live overseas in Eastern Europe, going to the doctor is my LEAST favorite thing. My ds, 4/12 got what looked like a mosquito bit last night. I am thinking now maybe it is hives. He has a few of the "bites" on his face and arms now. They itch but don't hurt. I have racked my brain as to what he ate that could have provoked it, but am not sure. Does anyone know about hives? what causes them? Would you just wait it out or get a certain cream? if so what? I can basically get anything over the counter here. It's not mosquito season as its still winter here, so it's strange. Do spiders bite? I have seen a few of those around......Thanks for listening!

The bites look like mosquito ones, but have a small red dot in the middle. That is if your dc isn't allergic to them.
If it's fleas the key will be to get rid of them ;), otherwise dc will get bitten more and more.
Actually, whatever it is, you want to find out, so that you can get rid of the cause. Do you speak the local language? Could you ask a neighbour or friend? If there are any other foreigners who've lived there longer, but still understand where you're coming from, that would be a great source of information.
After 10 years in Central Asia I've become an expert in all sorts of exotic sicknesses and bites:cool:

My daughter is notorious for getting hives. She is allergic to molds. Her hives can look like large bug bites at times -- especially if they are on her face. Sometimes they look like oblong welts. They itch like crazy. We have done Benadryl and Calamine lotion, but the thing that works best for us is Zyrtec Hives Relief -- it is amazing stuff (it has recently become an over the counter med in the U.S.). Here is a link to their site. There is even a pic of hives that sounds like what you are describing. Good luck!

OK Hives it was. Thanks for your help. I also checked Ask Dr. Sears and I noticed the splots were coming and going so we gave the benedryl, as he suggested as well, and ds is feeling much better! Thanks so much!
