It's this afternoon. My 10 year old is a little stressed about it but I'm trying to play it down as nothing big. I expect a visit in an office with the director of the group where she can do a basic evaluation of my son's needs and what challenges he may bring to the group. Do you think I'm way off-base in my expectations?

I've told my son that we are going to try the group a couple of times and see how it works for us. He, like me, has some social anxiety but really does want to make some friends. I'm hoping this might be a place to meet someone who similar interests who would accept his quirky personality.

Wish me luck!

I don't know what your first session will be like, but SS is ds's favorite activity all week. His group works on making conversation, reading other people's body language and putting yourself in their shoes. Ds's made lots of friends and loves free play time.

I hope your ds enjoys his class!

We go for our first session in Oviedo (ugh that trek from Daytona) tomorrow! Please let me know how your session goes!

This was an orientation with the woman who leads the course. She wanted to meet with me and ds separately to discuss his issues and what we are expecting from the program. Overall it went except I wasn't at all comfortable leaving my ds in the lobby while I talked to her. 15 minutes in he was starting to panic too. Am I overprotective or are we unusually attached? It was a building dedicated to child services, with a receptionist (grandmotherly woman) at the desk and other kid/adult pairs coming and going. I just have never really left him on his own like that in public.

The actual class starts in a couple of weeks, she says she has a few more orientation meetings to complete before they start. I am excited for ds, but not looking forward to the weekly drive and waiting around for an hour and a half. What do you guys do while your kids are in sessions?

Looking forward to some suggestions!
