View Full Version : Reviewing Math for the SAT - is this enough?

My dd is gearing up for the PSAT in October. We bought her an SAT review program, that she has been using for 2 weeks. When she took the diagnostic test, she came out low in math - as she explains it, she understands the testing strategies, but she forgets how to do the actual math.

She's currently doing ChalkDust Algebra 2, and is carrying a pretty solid B average. We did Math-U-See before, and I really regret it. Ah, well, water under the bridge.

Here's my question: do you think the SAT review software is enough for her? Or would we be better off getting CD's math review?

If we get the math review, how should I integrate it with Algebra 2? Concurrently? Pause Alg. 2, and do the CD review for 8 weeks?

Any feedback appreciated!

There is a certain "tricky" element to the PSAT/SAT, by which I mean that review of content alone may not be sufficient. I think you may want to balance concept review with timed tests (students must work quickly and accurately) as well as read through some how-to suggestions in the prep material.

Personally I prefer the more straight ahead style of the ACT to the SAT; the latter is not testing knowledge alone, but supposedly aptitude. There is a knack to the test that goes beyond traditional math review books.

At least that is how I see it.
