Science Explorer series? Just wondering as I just bought an entire used 2000 edition set off ebay. I'm not sure how to use these, either. Science scheduling idiot coming out.

Have you looked at ScienceWorks by Evan-Moor? That is a wonderful series for early elementary. You can view the books in their entirety at the E-M website.

Explorers is a pretty basic series. You really don't need anything to "prepare" for them. My kids have never used textbooks for science and my 6th and 8th graders are reading through several right now. A lot of it is simply review to them from books they have read in the past. Some of the material is new and is explained thoroughly enough that they are simply learning from the books.
