Spiderwick Chronicles - Which books does the movie cover?

I want to read before going and finished #1 in about 30 minutes last night. I figured it must be based on more than the first one.

I haven't read the books but according to my daughters the movie sort of smushed up all the books into one storyline.

I figured this might be the case but, since I haven't read them yet, though I would check.

Never know if they will come out with the sequel!

We read all the books here, and came to the general consensus that each book was chapter-length. The whole series could have easily been one book. It is nice for my struggling reader who can accomplish reading a "whole book." with the same amount of effort as a chapter or two in a regular book.

And,yes, the movie covers all the books as one storyline. There isn't enough meat in one book to make a movie.

We enjoyed them as a light read. Fun, easy, cute.

Same here. The books are very popular (of course) at my library. I think the shorter books are less intimidating to younger readers, so in that sense, I've no complaint about the way it's all divided into 5 books.

BTW, they were a huge hit in our house, too.

Yes, it's supposedly based on the five books in the *first* Spiderwick series.

I haven't read them, but my kids claim that the movie leaves out or changes almost everything from books 2-5.
