I originally planned to do SOTW vol 2 in 1 year. We started later in the fall after abandoning MOH vol2 in Sept. We are enjoying it so much that I am only about half way through. We do history everyday. I added quite a bit to Vikings, Knights, Battle of Hastings, etc. We just began the Crusades today.

So, I could rush things and finish this year.

I could continue history into the summer to finish vol 2.

Or, I could continue to take my time, continue adding extras and finish sometime next year. I confess I am partial to this choice. My dc love the program so much. I am learning so much and I have a great deal of history credits from my college degree!

I plan on SOTW vol 3 next with lots and lots of extras. I have been planning for the past 2 weeks for all the extras I want to add to vol 3!

We are doing vol 1 and not even close to being where we should be if we are going to finish this "year". However, we school year round and I am really trying to not think in terms of "grades" and "years", or I will just get depressed. If that was the case, my ds would be in first grade...again.

We have done a lot of changing curriculums this year so we are "behind" in some areas, but like I said...I am trying not to stress about it and I am comfortable with the road we are on now.

If the kiddos are enjoying it, then by all means do it into summer...just lightly so then it may not "feel" like school. ;)

We took about 1.5 years for Ancients and I'm willing to allot up to 24 months for Medieval. We supplement with lots of extra readings, and I think that each History Odyssey lesson will take about 2 weeks if I add a novel in for each.

I would recommend going ahead and spending more time on it. You could try to finish it up over the summer, but don't let it stress you if you choose not to do so. One thing I did, was to take a whole week every once in a while and just do history every day in order to make some progress. But, I don't think you really have to do that.

it's only taken us six-and-a-half years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No kidding. We began SOTW I the first year we homeschooled, and we're in our seventh year now.

We're going to finish SOTW IV this year. It will be the only book in the series we've finished in one school year, and it will take us some time this summer to get through the whole thing. Each of the other books have taken two school years apiece.

Enjoy.

We have taken more than a year for each of the books. We do roughly five years for each cycle, with a year of Chinese history in the middle and a couple of years of school (planned) at the end.
