Would it be crazy to combine IEW and Jump In?

I bought both of these to decide between them. There are things I like about each, and things I don't like. I tend to use more than one curriculum source in most subjects, as that seems to keep DS more interested, and it breaks up our schedule a bit.

I'm thinking of doing units 1 and 2 from IEW, then the first unit from Jump In, then the next unit of IEW, then Jump In, and so on.

Anyone done something like this? Would it be confusing or difficult? Or a good thing to give DS exposure to different ways of thinking about writing?

We're doing Jump In this year with our 8th gr. struggling writer -- but also use techniques from IEW to do other writing assignments outside of Jump In.

As long as you don't mind it either taking 2 years to get through Jump In (or you could drop units out of Jump In that you don't want/need to shorten it up), it shouldn't be a problem. Just don't expect to complete BOTH in ONE year! : )

for my dd11 next year. I love the History based lessons b/c then I don't have to "plan" any History writing on my own. AND it covers the nine IEW units in one inexpensive book :) I like Jump In for the variety of other assignment NOT related to History. So, I'm planning to do IEW 3 days/wk and Jump In 2 days or vice versa. Don't know until I receive the Jump In. It can work, just don't do each one every day.
