I grew up in New Mexico, took Spanish in public and private schools as well as in college and I never was taught the vosotros form of a verb. Was told it just wasn't used so there was no reason to learn it.

But I keep finding it in Spanish curriculum and I'm wondering whether to have my ds learn it or not.

So my question is whether or not you have had your children learn vosotros or whether I can just ignore it as all my teachers did!

Vosotros is used in Spain, not so much in Latin America (except Argentina). It depends on what type of Spanish you want your kids to learn. With most curricula, such as Rosetta Stone, you can choose to purchase the Latin American version and avoid vosotros or the Spain version and include it. We have lived in Peru, so we never learned it and have not required our kids to learn it.

I learned it because the school system insisted on Castilian usage for classes. So I'm teaching dd the same way.

As posted, depends on your "expected usage" needs.

Well, I am from Spain, so I obviously not only teach it but use it all the time!

It is the informal plural form of you and I use it when I address my children, for example, or any group of people who I know on a first name basis. This form is missing in some regional varieties of Spanish. Some of these varieties are found in Spain itself, although the standard variety does include it. Most Latin American Spanish varieties are missing the informal plural form even though they have the informal singular form.

It's a verbal form that is there, you will find it in any communication from Spain, literature, websites, TV, cinema etc.

It really is entirely your choice.

I majored in Spanish in college. My high school teacher didn't see the need to teach the vosotros form, and I tested out of the lower level grammar classes in college, so I never learned it. What a pain it was when my prof in Spain expected me to know it, use it, and write it properly.

My kids are learning it!!
