Does anyone know of any affordable options? I've looked at American School, but have heard that it isn't that great of a school (meaning the students don't get that good of an education from there). What other options are there out there? I'd consider secular or Christian.

I have a friend who's son used American School. They are a Christian family and they were pretty happy with the program . . . he is currently enrolled at the community college and is working. Overall he is doing well. I looked at their books and thought they seemed fine . . . typical textbooks but good. The one thing he said is he wished he had focused more on writing.
Another friend I have enrolled her daughter in the CLASS program of Christian Liberty Academy. They were very pleased and plan to use CLASS for high school for all their children. It is Christian and affordable. Again, I have seen several of their books. The books are very Christian in nature. They use some texts from other publishers (ABeka, BJU, etc.) but utilize their own printed tests and teacher guides.

Both programs have their headquarters in IL.

I had completely forgotten about CLASS. Thanks for the link.

We used Keystone National High School (http://www.keystonehighschool.com/) for Geometry and Chemistry this past year.

I would join email loops for any of the programs you're looking at.
I joined the email loops for Keystone (KNHS-hs) and Oak Meadow (OM_HS) on yahoogroups. The messages I found posted on the loops made Oak Meadow sound much better. The Keystone loop seemed to mostly have complaints.
I'm not using correspondence at all. I'm using Sonlight and Oak Meadow (both independently). The only actual classes with anybody else are my 16yo's cc classes.

American School has a different writing program now, likely an improvement.
It's pretty easy time-wise to add a few extra's to your American School program too, if you wanted to add a writing, or other topics. Most motivated students finish in 24 months. The least motivated still finish in 4 years, can hold a part-time job, and time for hobblies.
They do seem to have some nice electives too

I dont know if K12 is free in your state, but that would be best route.
Dd used to use apexlearning.com thru K12. They are accredited, but no diploma. Very rigorous, secular. They have start up dates thru Oct.
We did Keystone, it was awful.

Oh, I forgot, Christian Light may be another option. They will keep records for you if you want that option. A number of their upper level courses are similar to AO Lifepacks. They have a lot of nice electives. It is a "no-nonsense, back to basics" curriculum in my opinion. Affordable and Christian. The English coures said to be excellent.

Christian Liberty Academy is an actual Christian school. CLASS (originally Christian Libert Academy Satellite Schools--now, Christian Liberty Academy School System) was established for homeschoolers in the early 70s.

We used Indiana University High School for 9th grade. It's a good program though we're not using it next year for a number of reasons. Still, if you're looking for an accredited correspondence school, it could work well for you.

Laurel Springs correspondence school is worth a look. I decided against it for a number of reasons, but I was impressed by their curriculum and by the very kind, welcoming letter I got from the director.

BYU has high school program that is reasonable price (actually cheaper than any other programs I have found so far).

We have been very happy with the program.
Dd has taken Chemistry, Environmental Science, Spanish 1 & 2, English 2, World History, U.S. History...ummm, I think that's it.
We submitted our home-grown courses and she received credit from them for her transcript.
