They have done all of the Artistic Pursuits books (drawing, pastel, very limited pen & ink, some watercolor), gone each summer for 1 week to Seattle to the art academy, done LOTS of art (mainly drawing and cartooning) on their own. They are wanting to do pen & ink this year, and I need a good resource to teach this . . . well, for them to learn it from the book. They are mature 14yo's - "9th grade."
Thanks so much!

Thanks. Well I guess I figured there'd be a lot of books out there, but was looking for advice from a homeschool on a good one for self-teaching for HS.

My daughter is the artist in our household. You mentioned your children have already completed all of the Artistic Pursuits, so they must have a good feel for many of the artist words -- form, balance, shading, etc. So, I would think any book you find will work for high school to further their study in art.
When I looked at Google, like the other poster, I found a link for http://www.homeschoolarts.com/penink.htm. Then when I looked at the first lesson, it looks very similar to Artistic Pursuits. So would it be possible for your children to go back through the Artistic Pursuits book on drawing, only applying it to pen and ink with the techiniques shown on this website. I am referring to the Artistic Pursuits Senior High book 1, which is on drawing.
Just a thought.
Also on this site there is a link for book recommendations. The first book recommended is available at our public library. You might also check your library for appropriate books and/or videos on this topic.
I might see if my daughter would like to try her hand at pen and ink this year in using the Artistic Pursuits book. Thanks for asking the question which made me think a bit more.

Yeah, I went ahead and ordered First Steps Drawing in Pen & Ink, which was one of the recommended books on that site you mention. Our library also had 1 of the recommended books, and my MIL had another one so we'll start there. What looks really cool is The Technical Pen by Simmons, once they get the basics.
Thanks, both of you, for your input.
