My oldest is a great artist, but we haven't covered any art history. I'd like to use a text (or more than one) this year for her. Thanks in advance for any help. :001_smile:

WTM recommends Annotated Mona Lisa. I think it's bare bones, but pretty good.

I like Gombrich's "The Story of Art". Oak Meadow has a very nice syllabus for this book, about $25.

A standard college "Art History 101" book is Janson's "History of Art".

I know Eliana prefers Gardener's "History of Art"

Reading through ANY of these, going to a museum to look at some pieces "in real life" and then doing some writing (google "Writing about art" to get some ideas of art essays and how to write them) would make a respectable art history credit. You could also check out the AP Art History syllabus to see what they do.

Marilyn Stokstad's Art History. Love this book. When my dd was 13, she would read it like a story book.
