View Full Version : Time to play: Name that Rash!

Yesterday dd noticed a rash on her thighs. It looked like tiny prickles, but wasn't raised. She was wearing snug fitting bike shorts, so I had her change into loose fitting shorts, thinking it was maybe a heat rash. It wasn't itchy, or warm to the touch. Several hours later, the rash had pretty much faded.

This morning she woke up and was sitting on the couch, and said it was back, and now it was itching. I looked and it is spreading to her calves and just starting to appear on her trunk. It is more red today, and I might could call it lacy, but the newer areas still look more bumpy (but I don't feel any bumps).

She hasn't been sick or had any fever recently, but she did complain Friday night of her knee hurting (I don't think that is relevant, but?).

I have been googling this morning but not having much luck finding pictures. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Should I just give her some Benadryl and see if it goes away?

Thanks!

My first thought was strep/scarlet fever, but that is usually sand-papery feeling. I'd probably try the Benadryl and see if that makes a difference.

The lacy look and on-and-off appearance suggest Fifth disease. You might check symptoms and see if the list fits.

Good luck

I thought fifths disease was only on the face? I was actually wondering if her twin might have that, she came home Sat. evening with a fever and red face. Maybe they're sharing symptoms! LOL! Hmmm, time to google some more. Thanks!
