A friend told me about this curriculum, but just as a "check this out". My kids are young, so we're just going to start SOTW next year. But, after 4 years, I would like to switch to something else, and TQ looks interesting. I like the classical approach, and the thoroughness that it seems to have (being a 7-year plan for older kids).

Can anyone tell me what they think of this program? How does it fit with SOTW?

Thanks,
Danika

I am planning on using TQ with my youngers this year for American History. I have to say, if you like reading aloud to your kids, TQ is a good way to go. The book selections are great. There is much in the way of good literature for young children for this time period. My dc don't actually get into SOTW until they are a little older, and even then, the way they learn history the best is by reading good quality literature--they read on their level, and I read out loud to them.

With TQ, just remember you can't read every selection suggested--just pick and choose.

Truthquest is a guide. It divides history up into sections and lists which pages in the spines (SOTW, Guerber, or others depending on what you are studying) you read for that section. It also gives ideas for other books to read on a subject or videos to watch. There are a few writing assignments based on what you've covered throughout the book as well.

We are loving Truthquest! It's been a freeing thing for us to follow guides instead of curriculum. We also use History Scribe notebooking pages to go with the different topics.

Another thumbs up for TQ! I really like the reading and discussion approach to history. I read the spine out loud and then provide books for further reading. The book lists are fabulous. Each week we come home from the library with way more great books than we can possibly read. I put them in a basket and let my dc choose what looks interesting to them. They really enjoy it and we've had some great discussions.

I flush it out with maps, history pockets, and some gentle writing assignments. It's been a great fit for us.
