Did you have your dc read all or excerpts? Which ones? Did dc only read the introduction and Sparknotes? Reading all of Common Sense looks doable. How much time should I plan to devote to each of these books? I was only planning for a couple of weeks each. I am just using these as supplementary for American Government. Thanks, Angela

Ds read some of the Federalist Papers--you could call Sonlight and ask which of them they read.
Common Sense goes pretty quickly. I think a week on each would be fine. Thomas Paine's work was extremely influential, and reached the "common" people, a rarity. I think as long as students read it and understand the influence, a lot of time dissecting it isn't really needed.

TheGreatBooks.com has a study guide for The Federalist Papers. They chose to only read Madison's which are numbers 10 and 51. We will be using this when doing our Am. Govt. course.

This seems like a good idea. I had hoped that my son would read all of the Federalist Papers but time is working against us. By reading 10 and 51, he would at least have a taste and perhaps return for more another day. Thank you for the suggestion.
