Ds has been on a swim team since fall and I need to buy him another couple of jammers. His team used to sell them but they don't any longer. I need to buy some online but I don't really know what to look for. I spent some time at Speedo and googling but there are so many options for brands/fabrics/styles that I am very confused.
Do you have a suggestion for a brand/fabric/style that lasts good, but is also affordable. About the only firm input I have got from other moms is that the more expensive suits (over $50)have less drag but don't last for the extreme hours spent in practices....So, buy the less expensive ones. OK, great....which one .

I recently bought jammers for my boys at Sports Authority. I don't recall the price but they were in the $20 range. They seem to be holding up well. They only had a few choices in color and children's sizes. Another friend bought hers on ebay.

I still don't quite know the difference, but I do know that "racing" suits have less drag and are better for the swim meets. Most speedo's that you buy in stores ( Kohl's, Walmart, Ross, etc) are thinner material, and cause more drag. Not necessarily a bad thing for practice, but not good for meets.
We bought ds an extra practice suit (speedo) at Academy last year and paid about $20-$25. If you want to get one quality suit for meets, I would look at a swimming store, or start asking a coach about reputable stores maybe?
I really prefer TYR over speedo, they seem to hold up much better IMHO.

I always buy ours at swimoutlet.com
They hold up better than any store-bought suit. I jut got the Speedo Endurance for my son and it seems to be a good suit.

a poly suit is better for practice. They last a very long time. They are more expensive though. I have a poly for my son for practive and then a regular suit for meets. I almost always buy from swimoutlet.com. i have also bought suits at the winter meets. local swim shops set up and sell. They can have good deals.
Suits are always costing us money. I have 4 swimmers, two being girls. The boys get more wear out of their suits. They don't change size as quickly.
