Looking to purchase book 1 and 2

I do not know the difference in the american and british version. I will have a erd and a 6th grader and would like to use one book for both.
can anyone advise which i should start?

I think you could use Book 1 just fine with a 3rd and 6th grader. It starts out with one sentence dictation and progresses through entire poems, prose, etc..for older students. I am using book 1 with a 3rd and advanced 5th grader. HTH
