Beth,

Thanks for your post reguarding using R&S 7 and your plans for English in the middle school/high school years. I was wondering since you have the R&S 7 book handy, can you tell me how many total lessons there are and how many of them are writing assignments? We plan to use another writing program (haven't decided which CW, TOG or IEW), so I won't use the R&S 7 writing lessons. Just wondering if I can do R&S 7 in one year then onto R&S 8 in 8th, then use AG's h.s reinforcement books...

Also, you said you were thinking of using R&S 8 as review in h.s How were you planning to do that? Just a few chapters per year? Again, just wondering because it souinds like a promising idea as well.

Thanks for your reply!!

How do you like CW? My oldest dc are 12 & 10. I am thinking of using Homer with both, but I hear Diogenes you should start till 8th. Is that correct? If so, perhaps I shouldn't start 2nd child yet? (She is finishing up WT 2, and the author said after WT2 go onto to Homer) Any thoughts on this?? Oh another thing (sorry). I know CW uses Harveys for reference. Do you use Harveys when doing CW? Or look up the topic in R&S?

Once again TIA!!

R&S 7 has 125 lessons with 35 writing lessons. If you include the tests, there are 11 chapter tests and 1 final exam.

If I used R&S 8 in high school, I would just work through the grammar lessons and not the writing assignments as part of our literature studies. My focus in the high school years will be more literature reading and analysis, so I would use R&S 8 as more of a supplement to that. I wouldn't break it out on their transcripts though. I would just call it "English 9" or whatever is deemed acceptable.

I just posted a very lengthy CW analysis here: http://67.202.21.157/forums/showthread.php?t=12032

With your children, I would probably do the older workbooks for Aesop/Homer before moving into Diogenes. If you went this route, you might be able to keep your kids together. I can't imagine teaching 2 different levels of CW in one year; at least just starting out. I really like R&S grammar, so I don't use Harvey's with CW. We haven't hit any grammar concept yet that hasn't been covered in R&S, but when we do, we'll stop, review that lesson, and move on.

Let me know if you have any more questions. I'm happy to help.
