Our power went out last night at about 6pm. When our power goes out, it's DARK and our water doesn't work b/c we're on a well/sump pump. Ds5 was playing GameCube (gee...too bad :)) and was quite irate that the power shut off. Well, it turned out to be the perfect opportunity for some quality family time. Dc all gathered in the living room with blankets and pillows and dh read aloud from Mrs. Piggle Wiggle (they love that series!) and several other books. My ds9 had just put fresh batteries in dd's booklight and so dh used that to read by. Let me premise all this by saying that it has been a LONG time since we've had a read-aloud time together. The dc normally don't sit long enough for it. After that, the dc all snuggled together on the floor or the sofa and had a "slumber party". They all went to sleep fairly quickly and dh and I and our dd2 slept in our bed. It was really a lot of fun...until this morning when we awoke to FRIGID temps in the house :( Well, just wanted to share. Today we're at my mom's...too cold to stay home. Power won't be restored until at least 6pm

That sounds so lovely. My kids still remember when Hurricane Isabel knocked out power, and I made shadow puppets on the wall for an hour with a flashlight!
You are building sweet memories.

Did I say blessing? Okay, now our power company has updated our estimated time of power returning to 6pm...on TUESDAY!:eek::eek: Guess we're staying here with my mom. Picture this...6 kids + 2 adults in addition to my folks in a 3 bedroom rancher w/ ONE extra twin bed. Umm...yeah. My grandmother lives next door and has an available double bed, but I sure hate bothering my 95 yr. old grandmother.

OH MY! That's a long time to be without power! How much snow did you get?
I'm glad you have a place to stay. Hopefully you can do some fun things...in the long run it may be a great family memory. I have fond memories of the times we were snowed in.

hmm, a blessing??? I know several children who came 9m after a blizzard or a hurricane or some other power outage. I hope that you have that kind of blessing too :-)
Your evening sounds lovely!

So, dh and I drive an hour home to pick up our belongings, planning to be staying with my dear parents for 2 days. We walk in the door and lo and behold...the LIGHTS are ON! The phone message still says Tues. 6pm for power. Now, I'm thrilled...don't get me wrong! My kids, on the other hand, were extremely disappointed that their sleep over at Mom Mom's was a bust. So, we are home sweet home. Phone message still says power on Tues at 6pm. Very frustrating that we had to waste all that gas with the back and forth, but me made the most of it. Stopped for dinner, just the 2 of us (ask me how long it's been since we did THAT:eek:). Loud restaurant full of crying babies, but hey...they weren't mine :D All's well that ends well.:)
