We are starting school next week. At home, my 10th grader will be using SOS for Chemistry and Geometry and will be starting History/Literature on the 24th at a coop. As soon as her French curriculum arrives, she'll start that and her only other elective is going to be guitar, so we'll need to get some lessons on the calendar.
Anyway, the first few days of school for her will consist only of Geometry and Chemistry, and I'm assuming the beginning lessons will not be very time consuming.
Any ideas for some fun filler activities I could offer to her to make her first few days of homeschooling fun? I want her to see that homeschooling is really cool and not just a way to escape the bullies and stress at public school.

A trip to the library is always fun! Let her choose what ever she wants and then let her read the library books after she's done with lessons.
Movies and documentaries, art supplies, listening to music all might also be fun. Cooking something yummy, like brownies , is always fun!
Or , hey, doing "nothing" might be fun too! Let her she that when lessons are finished the rest of the day is "hers" to explore, create, rest, and enjoy!

Some ideas (and maybe enjoy more than one!):
- Together, read out loud and enjoy a funny, great, or classic book
- Take a Parks and Rec class together
- Let her have time to pursue a personal passion/interest/hobby
- Watch a classic film together
- Do a 10-minute critical thinking fun "warm-up" each day:
picture puzzlers = Think-a- Grams, Word Winks, Plexers
logic puzzlers = Soduko, Mindbenders, Perplexors
variety = Critical Thinking Activities in Pattern, Image, and Logic
- Share special together time you wouldn't get to do if she was in school:
go for a picnic hike
go bowling
visit a nature preserve
go out for tea, or lunch
make a special family heirloom recipe together
- Get out for a fun field trip
visit a museum
tour a cave, mine, or natural wonder in your area
visit an unusual facility (glassblowing, papermaking)
arrange a tour of an interesting department at your local university
go to a concert
Enjoy! And welcome to homeschooling! Warmest regards, Lori D.
