I have a bit of a delema (sp?). We were supposed to start YR 3 Redesigned last year but because I over scheduled the kids classes through our very good eye candy co-op which we are no longer part of. (thank you !!)

I wanted my oldest to go through yr 3 one more time but he will be a freshman. He did most of unit 1 as a D student. Now I want him to go into R work.

Can I still award him full credit even though he did most of unit 1 as a D student? If so then he will be a R student the rest of the units. However I fear he will miss some great literature in the D sections. He is a BIG reader. Loves to read. I do not think it will be a problem if I have read a few of the selections that I think is worthy of high school literature.

If not:

Should I condense yr 3 to 1/2 the time so he can rotate this one more time?

I am torn as to what to do. I also want him to follow some of SWB's suggestions on paper writing per the new WTM book.

I like both suggestions but I know I can't do both.

Thank you!!

This link might help:

High School Credits for TOG (http://www.tapestryofgrace.com/loom/year-all/Credits3.pdf)

I just glanced at it, but it appears that generally if 3/4 of the R assignments are completed, it's a high school credit.

I'm tired, so I'm not sure if you are getting ready to repeat year 3 for R, or did it last year. But, since I don't know beans about awarding high school credit, I can't be much help anyway. :)

Well, we started yr 3 last year but had to stop because of all the co-op classes I signed the kids up for which was really stupid on my part. Too much eye candy and I had to sign the kids up for all of them. :glare: Lesson learned. We are no longer in that group. We are in a very low key group that just offers extracurriculars: Art, PE, Math Penthalion, and Science labs for high school students all in one day. Yippie!!

So we are now picking up where we left off. I know, it is sad! I was really hoping to start yr 4 this September.

We started school last week, so we are on week 2 of Year 3 and I have a 9th, 7th and 2nd grader. I think you could easily pick up history where you left off, but literature would be a problem. He REALLY needs the analysis from poetics, frameworks, etc. Pride and Prejudice isn't too hard to read, but the vocabulary in the analysis is SO much harder than dialectic. I would look to see how they cut the literature and then just start the literature from the beginning using the biggest cuts they recomend. But you could start history in unit 2. Then by Christmas, he would be caught up in the literature perhaps?? Or maybe do unit 1 at double speed as a review, (Give them the questions and they just look up what they need to, watch documentaries, etc.) but let him do the lit at regular pace. Just a thought. There really is a HUGE jump from dialectic to rhetoric literature.
