I am placing my final orders for our upcoming school year.

My dd16, going into 11th grade will be taking the SAT next spring or summer. I am looking for a good program to help her with SAT writing...help with organizing, using time well and knowing what the graders will be looking for.

We have never used IEW, but the Elegant Essay and the Essay Writing Intensive look like very good programs for SAT preparation...I just don't know which one would serve her better. Also, does a student need to have used other IEW courses to do these essay courses?

She is a very proficient writer already...according to her Keystone teachers...college level. I tend to be overly critical, so I am not a good judge!

Anyway...does anyone have any experience with either of these programs? Which one would serve our purpose best?

Or...if you have any suggestions for other programs, I'd welcome those, too.

Thanks!
Robin

We are using IEW for the 1st time this year - SWI C & think it is great. They are very helpful and responsive on their Yahoo group if you would like to speak to a rep directly http://groups.yahoo.com/group/IEWFamilies/

I hope this helps.

We used the IEW SAT Essay course this year. I thought it was great. He talks about writing to your audience and who that it. There is a lot of great information and tons of practice questions. HTH

My daughter did not have the ability to organize her thoughts and write much in a limited time, so she took the on-line SAT writing course offered by the PA homeschool group. We were very pleased with the course and the guidance and direction given. She ended up getting a 10 on her essay.

I should add the caveat that she took the course four years ago, so it's possible that the woman who taught her isn't doing it any more. However, if they still offer it, I would expect that they're still using the same format and caliber of teachers. If so, I definitely recommend it.
