Someone said there are a lot of errors in LL. Is there a corrections sheet or anything like that so a mom just learning Latin could confidently use the program? I know I wouldn't be able to spot most errors on my own.

Technically Lively Latin is still in beta. The current users are asked to report any typos they find, and the author updates the files. There is a message board on her site for these corrections. If you're worried about it - and I can understand why you would be - you could wait until the book appears in a print version. By that time most of the kinks should be worked out.

Thank you, that explains it Plaid Dad. I appreciate you always answering my Latin questions.

Yes, although I would imagine that by now the files themselves have been corrected since some of the early adopters have gone through the whole book. You can write directly to the author to verify that, though.

We're on lesson three and there's a discrepency between the audio file and the flash cards whether porta, portae is masculine or feminine.

There is an "errata" file in the course to consult.

I had run across the porta, portae mistake recently too; that's why I was wondering how much had been corrected or not.

I have viewed the message boards, and have posted there about errors. The author seems to rarely check or respond to the board and I have viewed errors in lessons that I have seen posts about on the board. Since I am new to Latin myself, I have found this program difficult to use because of the errors we have found in it and the lack of support imho of the author on the board. We will be switching Latin programs for next year and I have stopped trying to use Lively Latin this year. I'm pretty disappointed as it had sounded like it would be a good program, but $55 for something that I have to download and print on top of trying to search for errors just isn't worth it to me. After emailing the author, I had thought that it was supposed to be in print form by now, and Lively Latin 2 was supposed to be coming out right around now.

Most of the errors are trivial: missed spaces, truncated text, missing macrons, etc. I'd say at least 90% of the errata are in the English text. If you have a Latin dictionary (or use one online), the occasional discrepancy (like the porta, -ae, m. vs f. example) can be quickly resolved. You can also check in the errata forum.

I've just been informed by Ms. Drown that the first lesson (and answer key) for Level 2 will appear very soon (probably this weekend) and a new lesson will be posted every two weeks until it is finished. This will be a separate course, of course. My oldest is almost finished the first level and will be continuing with the second.

I also just heard from the author about LL2 coming out -- that takes care of my Latin decision! We're loving LL! The errors in the Lively Latin-beta compared to the first edition of Latin for Children are miniscule. :)
