View Full Version : Am I contagious?

I've had the "crud that never ends" for a week and a half now. We had high fevers and a cough for five days, then noses ran like faucets for another couple of days. Now there is no fever, no noticeable nasal congestion but a deep barking cough and laryngitis. I'm wondering if the kids and I (all of us have it) should skip church tomorrow and what I should tell my neighbor that I'm scheduled to babysit for on Monday (she has a 6 month old and a 3 year old). What does Dr. Hive say?

Skip church, call your neighbor so she can find someone else, pull the shades down, and just relax.

Even if you're not contagious, which at this point you're probably not, you're going to make everyone around you nervous. You probably sound terrible, and I would skip the obligations until you feel AND sound better!

I'd skip church and let the parents know where you are health-wise. Let them make the call. You shouldn't be contagious any more, but they may be more comfortable with a sitter who doesn't sound sick.

I think everyone would prefer avoiding the risk of getting sick.
I know I wish whoever gave us their monster cold had chosen to stay home:rolleyes:

I had to make this same decision Wednesday night. My 6yo was getting over the crud, feeling just fine, and not coughing too much. But when he *did* cough he sounded like nasty. Deep, wet, icky cough...
DH told me to ask myself whether I would want to be at prayer meeting (in the family room of a not-so-big house) and be seated next to someone else's child who sounded like that. Well, no, I wouldn't. So I kept him home.
Now I've got it (I've decided it's impossible to help a little boy blow his nose without getting sprayed with snot at some point in the proceedings!) so tomorrow I have to decide whether to keep myself home. Sometime I may make it back to church...:(
