My dd was brushing her hair when all at once she had a large pain shoot through her neck. It made her nauseous and dizzy for a while, but that seems to be gone. She cannot move her neck without a great deal of pain.

I called the Chiropracter, but his office is already closed for the day. We're using warm compresses and ibuprophen.

Suggestions? Thanks.

Instead of warm, I would use an ice pack instead.

massage the back around the shoulder blades. Most kinks are actually caused by a knot in that region. I love our shiatsu massager b/c it almost always works out our kinks.

Uh, heat is for sore, tired, healthy muscles, injuries usually mean ice and I think she strained a muscle.

But no worries, from the website here, seems that you alternate heat and ice.

kinks in the neck are the worst:(

Ibuprofen usually works for me.
Unfortunately it is sore for a few days.

It's a pulled muscle. I did this 2-3 times as a girl and it has never healed right.

Just do whatever a person needs to do to heal a pulled muscle and tell your dd not to yank so hard.:)

Ice--check
Ibu--check
Vibrating massage--check

And one much happier daughter.

She has hair down almost down to her knees--guess that can be hard on the neck. LOLOL!

Thank you!

I would take her to a Physical Therapist. I injured my neck somehow (I'm embarrassed to say) by sitting in one of those massage chairs at the Sharper Image last summer. Once you have damage to a muscle it takes a long time to go back to normal. I waited from July to December hoping it would go away and I finally went in several times and they did some deep tissue massage and gave me some exercises to do and it finally got better. I hope your dd's neck pain won't last so long.
