Please!

I've started getting 30 or more emails each day telling me I need to be "bigger".

I've deleted and blocked until I'm blue in the face.

I assume my only option is to change my email address?

Sigh.

It sounds like you need a spam filtering program.

Go here: http://www.cnet.com/4244-5_1-0.html?query=spam+filter&tag=srch&target=nw

There is a list of spam filtering software, but keep scrolling down to read the articles on the topic, too, so you can figure out which product best serves your needs.

I have a spam filter--but it catches other mail that I want to keep as well as the junk mail. I have to go in and delete the junk and mark the rest as "not junk".

How do you get around the junk mail without having to sort through it? Am I missing something?

You can try adding email addresses from which you will accept email to your address book.

Here's an article about different types of spam filters. From the research I've done in the past, none are perfect, but some do a better job than others, and having a spam filter is better than having none at all.

This is not the only article on the web and for all I know, is not the most comprehensive or best discussion of the problem. I just go straight to CNET when I have computer-related questions, and after that, I check out other sites I consider to be reputable, based on the results of a Google search.

Right at the moment, I don't have a spam filter since I deleted Norton Antivirus from my computer. I haven't had time to research the subject lately, but I'd better get to it because I get at least 60 spam emails a day now.

Try this: Open each spam email to see if there is a place to unsubcribe. If so, do it. Do not click on any other link since they could add a virus to your computer.

Some websites that you sign up for will send you spam. My sister signed up for a photo-sharing site (Ringo) and invited me. I went ahead and signed up but my spam filter mentioned that the site distributes emails that are considered spyware, etc. I just find the place to unsubscribe. I have a yahoo free acct. so on some spam that come through with the photo boxes "x" out ... there is a place to click near the top of page to "show all filtered info" or the like. The unsubscribe sometimes shows up then.

One site I found was "totallyfreestuff.com" and even though you can get free samples, you get a lot of spam.

Check in your email program tools as well. Some have a Bounce feature that returns emails as if the address was bad and the automated sender notes it. Incredimail does this as well as most of the Linux email clients. Others may too but these are the ones I have experience with.

Beware of clicking unsub links...in the really crappy spam this can only serve to tell them your email address is indeed valid and the emails will keep coming. I also form time to time forward them on to my cable company with headers when it looks like I am getting a lot form the same ISP adn they are good about blocking those.
