Is this possible for 9th grade? I was going to use Alpha Omega, but I have no money to buy it. My daughter has a somewhat short attention span and I thought her having to answer questions every few pages would be good for her. She has had very little science up to this point. What would you do?

I am not sure about "no" cost, but certainly for low cost. Look for scope and sequence for Biology textbooks online, and start pulling together topics of study from that list. Go to your library, and stock up! :) Reading, researching, and collecting specimens from your local area would be a great biology course. I don't know how much you can guide if *you* are weak in science, however. So you probably need to start doing your due-diligence right now as well.

If your daughter has not studied science much, perhaps you and she would not object to an 8th grade science text. This link goes to an online "cyber-text" for a basic science textbook placed on the Internet by the State of Utah. There is no "log in" requirement, or anything else that I can find which indicates the webpages may not be used by "the general public". This is "free" material.

In addition, although the websites are intended for middle school students (I think), all of the Rader science websites are free.

These are good "general" resources. For more specific topics, there are many free modules available online. If I can help more, please let me know.

We had planned on my dd taking Environmental Science this year through Keystone, but the correspondence plain version is around $300...and I don't have the money to spare (dh just got laid off).

I found the exact same textbook for $7.98 at Half Price Books, a teacher text and study guide workbook on AbeBooks for around $36 including shipping for both...so for about $44 and my time scheduling she will get the same science course for next year...probably more because we will do the labs and environmental exploration activities. The labs are almost all do-able with household items. Keystone does not include labs in this course.

If you have one, Half Price Books can be a great place to put together a cheap course for just about everything! I found my son's Saxon 8/7 math set there a few months ago...new edition with workpages and solutions manual for $35...it had not even been used!

Also found my dd's U.S. History texts for a song...the ones recommended in TWTM...America: A Narrative History along with some source texts.
